Our team of expert metal fabricators can make a wide variety of products utilising metal. Mostly it is steel which can cover galvanised and stainless as well as mild steel. We can also work with chrome and wrought iron which means that we can make metal bespoke items to fit any space or customer specification.
Due to the versatility of how we work with metal we can utilise it with other materials too to provide a wide range of items. Our core products are metal railings and gates and whilst metal railings can come in many height sizes and decorative finishes. The combination of gate choices can be quire substantial.
Whilst pure wrought iron gates and steel metal gates continue to be popular where a open, see-through, gate is wanted; many customers who want privacy that a solid gate provides are transitioning to a composite gate in preference to wooden one both for side garden gates and driveway gates. With such a wide range of composite panel options available it is easy to find a suitable colour, and since we construct the metal frame that the composite panels go into we can provide an arch flat, or wave finish along with a decorative topping too.
At Metal Gates & Railings Deby as well as fabricating new gates we can also help repair and refresh existing metal and wrought iron gates too. If the weather has started to take its toll and there are rusted sections or gaps in your metalwork, we can carry out corrective welding to fix these issues. If over time your gates have slipped we can check to see what has caused the drop and reset them.
We can carry out a few different
metal gate restoration services, which can have your existing metal gates looking like new again such as our professional repairs and repainting service. The best way to do this, and most effective in terms of getting them looking like new again, is to remove them get them shot blasted. By shot blasting small particles of grit are propelled with force to the surface of the metal. This will remove the existing paint and rust and provide a clean and smooth surface for any welding repairs to be done before finally powder coating. Of course the much cheaper option is to simply get some metal paint and paint over any irregularities but this is very much a band aid approach, will not look good, and is likely to need redoing again very soon, as you will be masking over, rather than addressing and repairing the underlying metalwork surface issues. If you want to achieve a professional gate restoration simply get in touch today. Let us to evaluate your repair needs and provide you with an appropriate quote.
Whilst traditionally wrought iron was used for metal gates the ability to work with wrought iron and it's cost compared to mild steel has lead to many more metal gates in the last twenty years being made from steel. it Whilst aluminium is also starting to feature as another metal alternative, steel is proving to be the most versatile and cost effective option for garden gates, side entrance gates and driveway gates.
We can make metal gates for side garden entrances, driveway opening and front garden gates. Metal gate designs can be made to match fencing or railings so you can have a consistent style that will provide outstanding kerb appeal to your property.
We can powder coat and hand paint to provide different meal gate colours, which also mean combined colours such as having the bars one colour and the gate toppers another.
Metal railings are a common sight across Derby, serving both decorative and functional purposes. They can be found in various locations, such as gardens, parks, and public spaces, adding a touch of elegance and enhancing safety. If you're interested in the different styles of metal railings the Metal Gates & Railings Derby can offer we'll provide a little more information.
Railings can be made of wrought iron but most are now made of steel. However most of the vertical fence toppers are made from wrought iron to provide the best of both.
As well as no frills straight vertical railings we can make a variety of ornamental metal railings are designed to be visually appealing and decorative. For staircases we can also fabricate and fit handrails too. They can feature intricate patterns, motifs, and decorative elements such as scrollwork or floral designs. These railings look great in a variety of settings, including gardens, heritage sites, and historic properties, adding a touch of elegance and charm.
Metal garden fencing is often interchanged with metal railings as many people will simply use either terms when talking about fencing in a domestic environment.
There are some companies who provide solid metal garden fences and these can either be steel or aluminium but these are simply pre-manufactured sheets of metal, often corrugated to provide some additional dimension but this is still quite uncommon with many more people choosing composite fencing as an alternative to wood where a solid fence is sought after.
Our metal fencing will essentially be some form of metal railings. However, as we manufacture these on a bespoke basis we can vary almost anything. If you have particularly small dogs we can add additional horizontal bars and narrow the space between vertical metal bars to provide a safe enclosure for pets.
We can flow fencing into matching gates and hand rails if you have a steep or stepped rea in your garden. Simply get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Most of the different types of ground based metal railings can be used on garden walls. Obviously the biggest difference will be the overall height and the method of fixing to the wall.
Generally there are two main types of garden wall railings: those that run all the way across the top of a wall, either brick or stone or those the a fitted on top of a section of wall that runs between a set of pillars.
When fabricating metal wall railings that run between pillars rather than a run which is simply cut at the appropriate length they will be made as a panel. This is much neater and each panel is finished off at each end so that a vertical section of railing can be attached to secure the railings to the pillar as well as to the top of the wall to provide a secure fixing.
Wrought iron vs. just iron is characterised by its low carbon content, which makes wrought iron more malleable and easier to shape compared to iron or steel. However, the manufacturing process to achieve this is quite labour intense which leads to wrought iron being more expensive than mild steel.
Wrought iron has a more rustic texture which is why it has been, and continues to be, popular as the gate of choice at more traditional properties such as cottages and farm houses, where a gate is required but one which does not obscure the natural beauty of a garden or countryside behind it. Due to its malleable properties many wrought iron gates are more ornate in their design to provide both a see through gate yet one which itself provides an interesting and visually subtle decorative feature which complements the overall feel of a property.
Compared to entrance and side garden gates metal driveway gates need to be a more considered purchase. Clearly as bigger gates they will be a more expensive proposition than a metal garden gates but being bigger also means that these gates will be much heavier and as a result will need a suitable, secure means of fixing to a rigid point.
Since a wider extra area will be covered when opening and closing gates the angle and slope of the ground around this area may mean that a sliding or folding gate may be a more practical option. To account for this with a traditional pair of hinged swinging metal gates will require a skewing of the hinges positions to account for a slope. This will generally mean a bigger gap between hinge and gate at either the top of bottom depending on which way the gate slopes which will make the gates look less than perfectly symmetrical when closed.
Bother hinged and sliding gates can be automated although this is more common for sliding gates. We can build sliding gates in preparation for automation as a future upgrade if budgets don't allow for full automation from day one.
Virtually all composite gates will have a metal frame to support and enclose the composite fence panels. As well a providing a practical purpose, the metal around composite provides an aesthetic enhancement which can be taken to another level by adding toppings, such as those used for metal railings of full metal gates. Composite trellises can also be built into the gates too to provide even more interest and personalisation to your composite gate.
Whilst most people instinctively add a trellis to the top of a gate our metalwork team can frame these to go anywhere in the gate or in several places.
We can arch your gates and integrate secure keylock as well as fitting in letter boxes to the gates themselves.
Whether your are after composite side gates, garden gates or composite driveway gates we can build and install the lot.
If you are wanting to install upgrade your garden with both composite fencing and matching composite gate we can provide a complete turnkey service for all your composite requirements. Simple arrange a date with our surveyor to measure up, inspect your ground and fixing positions and we'll come back to you with a proposal to transform the outdoor area of your property.
Our metal framed wooden gates follow pretty much the same build process from a metalwork perspective as our composite gates. Very simply the composite is replace by timber or in many more cases these days wood effect. Whilst a number of customers initially request authentic timber when we visit we also show our wood effect composite range and for some customers this ticks the box. They get the look they want without worrying about maintenance and in many cases it is more cost effective than timber.
Either way we can make wooden side gates, garden gates and or course timber framed driveway gates.
Generally speaking when going for metal framed timber driveway gates you will want a timber with high durability and resistance to weathering. These will not be the same timber that is used in fencing and off the shelf garden side gates which are normally made of softwood. For driveway gates popular hardwood choices include cedar, redwood, and oak. The choice will depend on a combination of the natural aesthetics and shade of the different woods and of course their respective pricing. As a number of these are imported and are high quality woods you should expect to be paying substantially more than a composite equivalent. However, regardless of your choice we can provide the perfect from for your wooden gates.
Don't be limited by what you have already seen - our metalwork skills mean that we can make metal railings and metal gates to your exact specifications. We will always provide advice too on any potential issues with your choice based on the actual location that your item will be fitted. There will generally be little issues when installing metal railings however, there are many more considerations when fitting gates, especially larger driveway gates. The slope of the ground and the gate fixings can make a big difference on size and type of gate selected and opening method. If additional fixing posts are required and depending on where they can be positioned this may impact the size of the gates to account for the post and the slight change in spacing.
By providing a supply and fit service we take all the worry out of getting a perfectly fitting, and opening gate!
Following welding and deburring we will apply a primer coat for added protection.
We can offer both traditional hand-painted or powder-coating finishes. Both are popular finishing techniques for metal railings, providing durability and resistance to corrosion. Powder-coated railings come in a wide range of colours and finishes, allowing for customisation and personalization. They are commonly used in residential settings, parks, and public spaces, offering a durable and aesthetically pleasing option.
Our metal fabricators have a wealth of experience and can provide both MIG & TIG welding which widens up the product options we can provide.
Whether you are looking for the contemporary appeal of composite gates or the decorative charm of ornamental railings, our bespoke manufacturing service can provide a style to suit every preference and location. As we also provide a total turnkey service by installing as well you have complete peace of mind knowing that you will only make the final payment once you are happy with the end product rather than trying to buy the products separately to then try and find an installer to fit them, who may subsequently blame the manufacturer if there is a sizing or fitting issue.
Our composite gates with metal surround are proving to be very popular. The solid composite panels provide privacy and virtually no maintenance to keep them looking as good as the day they were installed. The solid steel surround provides a sturdy gate that should last for many many years.
Currently, embossed grey composite panels are by far the most popular with a charcoal/black trellis topping.
There is a wide range of metal paint colours although rarely do we see a full set of garden railings in a colour other than black. The most common use of alternative colours is for the railing toppers with gold and silver being the chosen the most.
If you have a particular colour in mind simply let us know. If our regular metal paint suppliers do not have anything suitable we will take our search wider to find you the most suitable option.
There is a very broad selection available which can all be fitted to the top of your railings with new designs coming out every year.
When we carry out our survey we will bring a catalogue for you to look through to select the one you'd like to go for and we will do the rest!
Yes we do.
We can carry our different types of metal gate repiars such as welding sections that may have rusted loose over time. Help with repositioning your gates if they have dropped and can remove, strip and get them repainted too.
